MUSICAL IMPROV - LEVEL 1

Find the song. Build the chorus. Trust your voice.

 

Musical Improv Level 1 is your introduction to making up songs on the spot - no sheet music, no safety net, and no need to be “a singer.” This class focuses on the fundamentals that make improvised songs work: strong chorus building, clear song structure, and singing in style and character.

 

You’ll learn how to:

  • Build catchy, repeatable choruses that anchor a song

  • Understand simple song structures so you always know what comes next

  • Sing in different musical styles (pop, musical theatre, power ballad, etc.)

  • Let character drive your lyrics, tone, and emotional point of view

Through supportive exercises, group songs, and low-pressure scenes, you’ll gain confidence using your voice as a storytelling tool - even if the last time you sang was in the shower. This class is playful, practical, and focused on making musical improv feel accessible, joyful, and doable. If you can talk, you can sing. And if you can sing a little… we’ll help you sing a lot more.

MUSICAL IMPROV LEVEL 2

Build bigger songs. Tell longer stories. Make the musical happen.

 

Musical Improv Level 2 is for improvisers who are ready to go beyond individual songs and start creating fully improvised musical worlds. Building on the fundamentals, this class dives into advanced song structures, long-form musical formats, and the skills needed to sustain characters, themes, and emotional arcs over time.

 

You’ll work on:

  • Advanced song structures (reprises, transitions, group numbers, finales)

  • Using music to move story forward, not just decorate it

  • Exploring long-form musical formats and narrative musicals

  • Creating recurring characters, musical motifs, and emotional through-lines

  • Balancing comedy, story, and sincerity in longer musical pieces

 

Through extended scenes, musical runs, and format exploration, you’ll learn how to support each other, heighten musical ideas, and confidently step into big moments - whether that’s a heartfelt solo or a chaotic ensemble number. This class is for improvisers who want to think bigger, sing smarter, and trust the structure enough to play freely inside it. By the end, you’ll have the tools to help create long-form musical improv that feels cohesive, surprising, and deeply satisfying.

Prerequisite: Musical Improv Level 1 (or equivalent experience).
